James Hastings is an actor, musician and singing/instrumental teacher based in South East London. He trained at Rose Bruford College and the Royal Academy of Music.
James’ acting credits include work in London’s West End on ‘Cabaret’ at the Playhouse Theatre and ‘Old Friends’ at the Sondheim Theatre, ‘Boundless as the Sea’ and ‘Miss Littlewood’ for the Royal Shakespeare Company on board Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 and shows ‘The Trench’ and ‘United Queendom’ with Olivier award-winning theatre company Les Enfants Terribles. He also appeared in season 2 of ‘Flack’ for Hat Trick/CASM Films. James is a founding member of The Bohemians Theatre Company, who premiered the first iteration of his new musical ‘Pardoned’ with writer Joel Nash at The Other Palace in 2018.
In 2023, James released his debut EP as a singer-songwriter: ‘GAIA’, adding “a significant voice to the UK’s blossoming environmental folk scene.” As a multi-instrumentalist with an eclectic musical background, he has played in all manner of musical groups/settings across the UK and internationally, profoundly influencing his work as a writer and teacher. In addition to building a thriving private teaching practice, James has worked for music education companies Mini Mozart & Practice Pal and taught on the performing arts degree courses at Laine Theatre Arts and Mountview.
A passionate environmentalist & ethical vegan, in his spare time James can often be found out wandering in nature with rescue-dog Lupin, his treasured canine companion.
